Course Requirements and the Basis of Your Grade:
(Plagiarism and cheating will be treated seriously: See Official CU Policies.)
- Alert attendance: 4 unexcused absences will lower your grade by one full grade, 7 such absences will lower it two full grades, 10 will lower it 3 grades, 13 will lower it 4 grades. An exception will be made if you are Albert Einstein.
- Quizzes, homework, and in-class exercises: 30% of final grade
- Some quizzes will be unannounced, some will be held at the end of class, some will allow you to refer to written copies of the reading (if you have brought a copy to class).
- Some assignments will require you to take notes in class; some will require you to take notes on the reading or paraphrase some part of what an author is saying.
- Some in-class exercises will require you to work with a group of classmates.
- A two-page report on, and analysis of, any reading assignment or important part of a reading assignment, due 24 hours before the class devoted to that reading: 10%
- Midterm examination: 25%
- This will include a few short essays and a larger number of short answer questions
- A final examination: 35%
- This will include an essay of vast scope, a couple of short essays, and some short answer questions
- Extra Credit: Good class participation
